Ladybooth Equestrian Centre, Peak District, UK
Visited: September 2012
The village of Edale is found in the Peak District, best known to walkers as the start of the Pennine Way but to the hippophile as home to rolling hills and an abundance of bridleways. What better way then, to enjoy the scenery and explore the vast countryside, than by hoof?
Myself and a friend went one June day to Ladybooth Equestrian Centre on a two-hour trek across Nether Moor to the start of Jaggers Clough. Our horses were two marvelous piebald cob/shire crosses. The trail was varied with some roadwork, knobbly paths up with various rocks and cobbles to negotiate and wide grassy hillsides for the odd canter. The variety was especially suited for the novice rider who I was with as it really makes you trust in your horse and go with the flow, a great learning experience for someone new to trekking but enjoyable for the more experienced rider too. After our ride we finished up by getting in a couple of pints and some exceptional pie at a pub called, fittingly, The Old Nags Head.
